We think every home should be designed to first and foremost be comfortable.  This does not mean making sure the home has lots of heating and air conditioning, in fact quite the opposite.  It means designing homes that are so well insulated and use such high quality products that the heating and cooling systems are rarely used, even in the depths of the winter or the heights of the summer.  These homes also feature active ventilation which exchanges the stale air in the house that is often times contaminated with VOC's, formaldehyde and carbon monoxide, with fresh filtered outdoor air that is preconditioned by the air being removed. For anyone living with allergies, this creates comfort like no other.  Homes like this are by default very energy efficient. Energy usage can typcially be one-tenth of a comparable sized home built to code.  Adding solar panels, can bring the home easily to net zero energy usage.  And we are talking about a fraction of the panels of a comparable home because of such reduced energy loads. Finally, using currently available residential battery technologies, we can even get to a zero-grid home, in other words a home that draws no electricity from the power grid, except for extended periods of no sun.
